ANTHRAX Guitarist 'Basking In The Glasgow Afterglow'
April 9, 2006ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian has commented on the opening gig of the band's European tour, which kicked off Friday night (April 7) in Glasgow, Scotland. In a posting on the group's official web site, Ian wrote, "It's 7 a.m. and I'm still basking in the Glasgow afterglow. What a way to kick this off!!! There's never a letdown in Scotland, it only gets better and better. Thank you for making the first night so amazing. 'Skeletons' was sick and the pit in 'Indians' was the biggest yet!! I can only hope this is an omen for the next three weeks. Most of the shows have already sold out so I expect this to be a great tour. This is the last time we will be touring for a long time so don't miss it (I am talking to you, Nottingham, Hamburg and Copenhagen — last chance!). I'm going to try and get some sleep."
ANTHRAX members Ian, Frankie Bello (bass) and Charlie Benante (drums) got together in Chicago (where Benante lives with his wife) in early December to jam on new material. According to Ian, rough "skeletons" of three new songs came out of these sessions, with the band scheduled to continue writing throughout the coming months.
ANTHRAX completed a 13-date U.S. tour on Jan. 21 in Hollywood, California. Sitting behind the kit for the last two dates was SHADOWS FALL's Jason Bittner after regular ANTHRAX skinsman Charlie Benante was forced to leave the tour early to attend to his wife Sandra, who gave birth to the couple's first child, Mia Charley Benante, on Jan. 19. The band's current three-week European headlining tour features BEYOND FEAR (featuring ex-JUDAS PRIEST and current ICED EARTH frontman Tim "Ripper" Owens) in the support slot.
